The case fits very snuggly at first. You really have to press the Yamaha DM3s or Yamaha DM3D mixer into the foam. At first, I thought the case did not fit but it is just the foam being a bit stiff. After letting the foam conform to the mixer for a few hours (about 1 day), it was easier to get it in and out of the case. I actually appreciate that it holds the mixer snuggly as it avoids it from moving inside when transporting. The latches are secure and sturdy. The hinge seems sturdy too. I feel that this case will hold up well for years. I considered the flight case type with their metal latches and corners also but their weight was the issue. Also this case is waterproof which the flight cases are not. Please be aware that you cannot operate the mixer while it is still in this case. Some flight cases are designed to allow you to remove the cover but leave the mixer on the base while using. The only negative point is that the surfaces are smooth and do not stay stacked when transporting. Stacking this with other equipment on a wheeled cart required care to avoid it sliding off when going around corners or inclined surfaces.
