LA108 or LA112: which QSC line array?
Both are 2-way powered L Class modules with the same rigging, app control and networking. The LA108 is smaller and lighter with wider coverage. The LA112 has a 12-inch woofer, two high-frequency drivers and more output. Max SPL is QSC's peak rating at 1 meter (3.3 feet), and low end is QSC's -10 dB figure.
| Model | Drivers | Amp | Coverage | Low end | Max SPL | Weight |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| QSC LA108 | 8-inch woofer, one 1.75-inch compression driver | 1300 W peak | 100° x 15° | 57 Hz | 134 dB | 30.1 lb |
| QSC LA112 | 12-inch woofer, two 1.75-inch compression drivers | 2400 W peak | 90° x 15° | 53 Hz | 136 dB | 47.2 lb |
How many line array speakers can I fly or stack?
With its array frame, QSC rates a flown array at up to 6 LA108 or up to 6 LA112. Ground-stacked on subwoofers, the limit is up to 4 LA108 or up to 3 LA112. On a tripod rated for 100 lb (45 kg), QSC allows up to 3 LA108 or 2 LA112. LA108 and LA112 modules cannot be rigged in the same array.
Which subwoofer goes with QSC line arrays?
The L Class LS118 is the matching sub, and QSC also pairs the LA108 and LA112 with the LS218, KS118 and KS212C. As a starting point, QSC suggests one sub for every four line array boxes. See all QSC subwoofers.
How do I ground-stack an LA108 or LA112 on a sub?
Combine the array frame with the stack adapter kit, which bolts to the subwoofer's M20 thread and angles the array at +6°, 0°, -6° or -12°. QSC allows up to 4 LA108 over one upright LS118 or KS118, or over two LS118 or KS212C laid on their sides, and up to 3 LA112 over one or two LS118 or KS212C laid on their sides.
What do AWARE and Ar-Q do?
AWARE (Automatic Wireless Array Recognition) uses infrared sensors on each grille so the modules recognize how they are arrayed. Ar-Q then applies array equalization with one Optimize Array press. QSC's SysNav app adds AIM array modeling, and the speakers also carry Dante audio over IP and Q-SYS integration.
Is it hard to rig?
QSC's RapidDeploy rigging is designed for one person with no tools. The angle bar sets 1.5°, 6° or 12° between boxes, and a larger angle may not sit above a smaller one.
Which accessories do I need?
- Array frame (LA108-AF or LA112-AF): flies up to six modules, and is the base for a ground stack.
- Stack adapter kit (LA108-KIT-SA or LA112-KIT-SA): joins the array frame to a subwoofer's M20 thread.
- Jumper kit (LA-KIT-J or LA-KIT-J-NA): daisy-chains AC power (PowerCON TRUE1) and network (etherCON) across 2 pairs (4 units). The LA-KIT-J-NA has 24-inch North American jumpers.
- Installation kit (LA-KIT-I): suspends up to 4 LA108 or 3 LA112 without the array frame.
What about the QSC KLA12?
QSC lists the KLA12 and KLA181 as discontinued, with limited service. L Class rigging is not compatible with the KLA12, so a KLA system cannot be extended with LA modules.
Can someone help me design a system?
Yes. Hollywood DJ is listed in QSC's authorized dealer locator. Call 1-800-700-4542 or visit the showroom at 934 E 11th St in Downtown Los Angeles.
