What is the difference between Pioneer DJ and AlphaTheta?
The maker is the same. AlphaTheta Corporation, which was Pioneer DJ Corporation until it changed its name in January 2020, designs both and uses the Pioneer DJ name under license from Pioneer Corporation. It launched the AlphaTheta brand in January 2024 with the OMNIS-DUO. Newer models such as the DDJ-FLX2, DDJ-GRV6, XDJ-AN and XDJ-AZ carry the AlphaTheta name, while the DDJ-FLX4, DDJ-REV, DDJ-FLX10, XDJ-RX3 and OPUS-QUAD lines stay Pioneer DJ.
What is the difference between DDJ and XDJ?
DDJ controllers have no main screen: they run DJ software such as rekordbox or Serato DJ on a computer, phone or tablet. XDJ systems are all-in-ones with a built-in screen that play music from a USB drive with no computer. The OPUS-QUAD and OMNIS-DUO are all-in-ones too, and the XDJ-AN, XDJ-AZ, OPUS-QUAD and OMNIS-DUO also stream music over Wi-Fi.
Which Pioneer DJ controller is best for beginners?
The Pioneer DJ DDJ-FLX4 or the AlphaTheta DDJ-FLX2. Both have Smart Fader and Smart CFX to help hold your first transitions together, and both run rekordbox, Serato DJ Lite or djay on a laptop, phone or tablet. The FLX4 is the full-width layout, with a 1/4-inch mic input and RCA outputs. The FLX2 is the most compact, at 2.6 lb, with a 1/8-inch output. Which Pioneer DJ controller is best for scratching?
The DDJ-REV series, laid out like a battle mixer between two turntables. The DDJ-REV1 runs Serato DJ Lite, with 154 mm jog wheels and Lever FX. The DDJ-REV5 adds 8.1-inch (206 mm) jog wheels with displays, the MAGVEL FADER and Stems buttons, and includes both Serato DJ Pro and rekordbox. The DDJ-REV7 has motorized platters with a vinyl-textured top and a 3.5-inch display in each, the MAGVEL FADER PRO and Serato DJ Pro, and has worked with rekordbox since a March 2024 firmware update.
DDJ-FLX10 or DDJ-GRV6: which 4-channel controller?
Both are 4-channel controllers with 8.1-inch (206 mm) jog wheels that include rekordbox and Serato DJ Pro. Choose the DDJ-FLX10 for real-time Stems with Mix Point Link, displays in the jog wheels, a DMX output for rekordbox Lighting, an XLR master and booth output and two mic inputs. Choose the AlphaTheta DDJ-GRV6 for Groove Circuit, which swaps, rolls, releases and captures a track's drum part live in rekordbox, and for a controller that runs on USB bus power from a laptop.
Which Pioneer DJ controllers work without a laptop?
The all-in-one systems. The XDJ-RR and XDJ-RX3 play from USB drives, and the XDJ-RX3 adds a 10.1-inch touchscreen. The XDJ-AN plays from a USB drive and streams over Wi-Fi on a 7-inch touchscreen. The OMNIS-DUO runs about 5 hours on battery and plays from a USB drive, an SD card or streaming. Which Pioneer DJ all-in-ones stream Spotify?
The AlphaTheta XDJ-AN, from firmware 1.20 (August 2026), and the XDJ-AZ, from firmware 2.00 (October 2026), so update the firmware before you play out. AlphaTheta's current firmware notes for the OPUS-QUAD and OMNIS-DUO list Beatport Streaming, TIDAL and Apple Music. The XDJ-RX3 and XDJ-RR do not stream on the unit. Each service needs its own subscription, and the XDJ-AZ and OMNIS-DUO need firmware 2.00 to keep loading Apple Music tracks.
Which Pioneer DJ controllers come with rekordbox or Serato DJ Pro?

- Serato DJ Lite, with Serato DJ Pro as a paid upgrade: DDJ-FLX2, DDJ-FLX4, DDJ-REV1, XDJ-AN and OMNIS-DUO.
- djay: DDJ-FLX2, DDJ-FLX4, DDJ-GRV6, DDJ-FLX10 (djay Pro) and XDJ-AN. On most of these, djay Pro is a paid subscription.
