Featuring an authentic reproduction of the classic K87-style capsule, the WA-87 R2 delivers a pleasing, detailed high end with the signature 7–10kHz presence that can help vocals and other sources stand out in a mix. Three selectable polar patterns—cardioid, omni, and figure-8—provide flexibility for different recording techniques, while the switchable 80Hz high-pass filter helps reduce unwanted low-frequency rumble. A -10dB pad provides additional headroom when capturing loud sources.

The WA-87 R2 is based on a classic 1960s circuit and uses premium components selected to closely reproduce the character of the vintage design. It features NOS Fairchild transistors, high-bandwidth polystyrene and film capacitors from WIMA, and a custom-wound CineMag USA output transformer. The updated design provides a slightly increased output level and improved frequency response while maintaining the authentic sonic character of the original-style circuit.
