Flexible Gain & Tone Shaping

The WA12 MKII provides an output attenuation control positioned after the CineMag output transformer, allowing you to drive the preamp and transformers into saturation while controlling the final output level. High gain with lower output produces a more overdriven, harmonically rich character, while lower gain with higher output delivers a more open, dynamic, and articulate response. The classic Warm Audio Tone control alters the input transformer impedance from 600Ω to 150Ω, adding extra air and sheen that can be especially useful with darker microphones and ribbon mics.

Professional Recording Features

Designed to handle a variety of recording situations, the WA12 MKII includes selectable 48V phantom power, a -20 dB pad for managing loud sources, polarity inversion for addressing phase issues, and LED metering for monitoring signal levels and identifying potential clipping. Rear XLR inputs and outputs provide standard studio connectivity, while the front-panel Hi-Z input features a dedicated switch and JFET circuitry optimized for direct bass and guitar recording.

The WA12 MKII uses custom USA-made CineMag input and output transformers along with discrete 1731-style op-amps. The socketed op-amps can be user-replaced with compatible 6-pin 2520-footprint op-amps, providing opportunities for tonal experimentation and customization.
