Do I need a 4-channel DJ controller?
If you want to mix more than two sources at once, or want the same layout as the four-channel mixers in most club booths, yes. Four channels let you run two tracks plus a third or fourth for an acapella, a loop or samples, or plug in extra players. Many DJs only mix two tracks at a time, and a 2-channel controller is smaller to carry; see 2-Channel DJ Controllers.
What is the difference between 4-channel and 4-deck?
Channels are physical: four channel faders with their own EQ and filter on the mixer section. Decks are in the software: a compact controller can switch each side between decks 1 and 2 and decks 3 and 4. The Reloop Mixtour Pro, for example, is designed for Algoriddim djay Pro and mixes four decks, with layer indicators that show whether decks 1 and 2 or decks 3 and 4 are active.
Laptop controller or all-in-one system?

The AlphaTheta XDJ-AZ follows the layout of the CDJ-3000 and DJM-A9, so it is good practice for a club booth. Features on these units change with firmware updates, so check the manufacturer's current notes before you rely on one.
How do I protect a 4-channel controller?
