Description
The Pioneer DJ DDJ-FLX4-W (DDJ-FLX4W) is a two-channel DJ controller for rekordbox and Serato DJ Lite in a white finish. It carries eight back-lit performance pads per deck, two touch-sensitive jog wheels, a three-band EQ per channel, a single stereo RCA master output and a quarter-inch microphone input, and it runs on USB bus power from a laptop with no separate adapter. It measures 482 x 272.8 x 59.2 mm and weighs 2.1 kg (4.6 lb). It is a controller, not a standalone player: it needs a PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad or Android device to run.
Smart Fader and Smart CFX are the two features aimed squarely at people who have not mixed before. Smart Fader adjusts BPM, volume and bass as you move a channel fader or the crossfader, so a transition holds together while you are still learning to beatmatch by ear. Smart CFX puts a combination of effects on one knob. Everything else on the surface is laid out the way Pioneer DJ lays out its professional gear, so what you learn here transfers.
Is the white DDJ-FLX4-W different from the black DDJ-FLX4?
No. Every published specification is identical: same dimensions, same 2.1 kg, same connections, same software, same Bluetooth. Pioneer DJ's white and black product pages link to the same instruction manual. The difference is the finish and about ten dollars. If the colour does not matter to you, the black DDJ-FLX4 is the cheaper way to buy the same controller.
How does it compare to the DDJ-REV1 and DDJ-REV5?
All three are two-channel Pioneer DJ controllers with eight pads per deck. What separates them is the layout and the software they unlock.
| DDJ-FLX4-W | DDJ-REV1 | DDJ-REV5 | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Layout | Club style, vertical tempo faders | Battle style, horizontal 60 mm tempo sliders, pads in the mixer section | Battle style, larger format |
| Software unlocked free | rekordbox, Serato DJ Lite, djay, Traktor Play | Serato DJ Lite only | rekordbox and Serato DJ Pro |
| Phone or tablet support | Yes, iOS and Android | No | Yes |
| Bluetooth | Yes, control only | No | No |
| Jog wheel display | No | No | Yes, with a JOG FEEL weight control |
| Master output | RCA | RCA | XLR and RCA, plus a booth output |
| Microphone inputs | 1 | 1 | 2 |
| Power | USB bus power | USB bus power | AC adapter |
The short version: buy the DDJ-FLX4-W if you want to learn on a laptop and a phone and keep your choice of software open. Buy the REV1 if you already know you want to scratch on a turntable-style layout and are happy inside Serato DJ Lite. The REV5 is a working DJ's controller, the one you take to a paid gig where the house system wants XLR.
What is in the box?
A USB Type-C cable, a Quick Start Guide, Precautions for Use, and a warranty card. There is no power adapter, no RCA cable, no Lightning cable and no headphones. If you are connecting a laptop over USB-C, the supplied cable is all you need.
Do I need a laptop, or will my phone work?
A phone works, but you need a device of some kind, because the DDJ-FLX4-W has no screen and no internal music player. Pioneer DJ supports PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad and Android, and rekordbox for iOS and Android is a free download. One thing buyers miss: a phone cannot power the controller. A mobile setup also needs a USB power adapter rated DC 9 V, 3 A, or a 9 V mobile battery, into the second USB-C port. Most phone power banks output 5 V and will not run it.
What does the Bluetooth actually do?
It carries control data, not audio. Pioneer DJ's manual is explicit: connected over Bluetooth, sound does not come out of the controller at all. The RCA master output, the headphone output and the microphone input are all silent, and the audio has to leave the phone itself through a headphone adapter. If you want sound out of the controller, connect over USB. Bluetooth is the fallback for older Android devices with Micro USB ports, which Pioneer says should not be connected by cable.
Is the software free, or is there a subscription?
Free. Connecting the controller unlocks rekordbox Performance mode on Mac and Windows with no subscription, which Pioneer calls Hardware Unlock, and it unlocks Serato DJ Lite as well. rekordbox for iOS and Android is free from the App Store and Google Play. Only Serato DJ Pro needs a paid licence or subscription. Nothing ships on a disc; everything is downloaded.
Can I use Spotify or Apple Music?
Yes, through rekordbox, with a paid subscription to the service. rekordbox added Spotify playback on Mac and Windows in September 2025 and on iOS and Android in December 2025, and it also supports Apple Music, TIDAL, Beatport Streaming, Beatsource and SoundCloud. Streamed tracks cannot be stored offline or exported, so they need a live internet connection to play.
Can I plug in speakers and a microphone?
Yes to both. The master output is one stereo pair of RCA jacks, so powered speakers with XLR or TRS inputs need an RCA-to-XLR or RCA-to-TRS cable. The microphone input is a single quarter-inch TS jack, unbalanced, with its own attenuator trim on the rear panel, so a balanced XLR microphone needs an adapter. The controller mixes the microphone into the master output and sends it over USB too, which is what makes it workable for streaming from one device. The microphone does not pass over USB while a Bluetooth device is connected.
What headphones will work?
Headphones of 32 ohms or higher, into the 3.5 mm jack on the front edge. Pioneer DJ specifically warns against lower-impedance headphones: they will not work properly and can interfere with USB bus power. There is no quarter-inch headphone jack, so most DJ headphones will need the adapter that usually comes with them.
