AlphaTheta DDJ-FLX2 & Versatile DJ Controller Rekordbox Serato Black

The AlphaTheta DDJ-FLX2 (DDJ FLX2, DDJFLX2) is a compact 2-channel DJ controller for rekordbox, Serato DJ Lite, djay and Traktor Play on a PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad or Android phone or tablet. It runs on USB bus power, connects by USB Type-C or Bluetooth MIDI, and has Smart Fader and Smart CFX to help new DJs make smooth transitions. It measures 15.09 x 8.19 x 1.90 inches (383.2 x 208 x 48.2 mm) and weighs 2.6 lb (1.2 kg), which makes it AlphaTheta's lightest and most compact DJ controller. It is a controller, not a standalone player: the music and the DJ app live on the connected device.

AlphaTheta is the company behind Pioneer DJ, and the DDJ-FLX2 launched under the AlphaTheta name in October 2024. Its 3.5 mm master output plugs into powered speakers, or you can practice through the speakers built into your laptop, phone or tablet.

How is the DDJ-FLX2 different from the DDJ-FLX4?

The DDJ-FLX2 is smaller and lighter and has no microphone input. The Pioneer DJ DDJ-FLX4 is full width, with bigger jog wheels, a microphone input and RCA outputs.

Pick the DDJ-FLX2 to DJ from a phone or tablet or to pack the smallest setup. Pick the DDJ-FLX4 if you want to talk on a mic or plug into speakers with RCA cables.

Will the DDJ-FLX2 work with my phone?

Yes. Connect an iPhone or iPad with the included USB Type-C cable and rekordbox for iOS, and you can even play the mix through the device's own speaker (that last part is not available on Android). An Android phone or tablet also connects by USB Type-C and plays through speakers plugged into the controller. You can connect a phone or tablet over Bluetooth MIDI instead; then the controller needs its own power from a USB power adapter or a mobile battery.

Which software is free with it?

rekordbox for Mac and Windows unlocks Performance mode with the DDJ-FLX2 at no charge, rekordbox for iOS and Android is a free app, and Serato DJ Lite is included with no license or activation. It also works with djay and Traktor Play. Serato DJ Pro needs a paid license.

Can I DJ with Spotify, Apple Music or TIDAL?

Yes, through a compatible DJ app. AlphaTheta lists Apple Music, Beatport Streaming, SoundCloud Go+/DJ, Spotify and TIDAL, each with its own subscription. Which services you get depends on the app you use and your country.

Does it have a microphone input?

No. Its only audio connections are a 3.5 mm master output and a 3.5 mm headphone output. If you need a mic input, look at the DDJ-FLX4.

How do I connect speakers?

Plug powered speakers into the 3.5 mm master output with a 1/8-inch stereo cable, or a 1/8-inch to dual RCA cable for speakers with RCA inputs. For casual practice you can skip speakers and play through your laptop, phone or tablet.

Is the DDJ-FLX2 the replacement for the DDJ-200?

AlphaTheta does not call it one. The Pioneer DJ DDJ-200 is no longer a current model, and the DDJ-FLX2 is now the company's lightest and most compact controller that works with a phone, tablet or laptop.

Is it good for a beginner?

Yes. Smart Fader automatically adjusts volume, BPM and bass as you slide the crossfader, so a transition holds together while you learn, and Smart CFX, used with the Performance Pads, lets you recreate complex effect techniques. The pads also handle Hot Cue, Pad FX, Sampler and Loop functions as your skills grow.

What is in the box?

The DDJ-FLX2, a USB Type-C cable, a Quick Start Guide, Precautions for Use and warranty information. There is no power adapter, because it runs on USB bus power, and no audio cable.
