The Fostex PM-SUB-MINI-2 5-Inch Active Subwoofer - 50 Watt is designed to provide powerful bass response in a compact enclosure. It can be used with the built-in, pass-through RCA terminals, easily integrating with your existing compact speakers for better low-frequency enhancement.

This active subwoofer is ideal for use with the PM0.3 series of compact, high sound quality active speakers and the PM0.1 series. The compact body incorporates a variety of technologies to achieve powerful bass while matching the size of the PM0.3H and other speakers.

The speaker diaphragm is made of a heavy, rigid glass fiber material with a large mesh surface, which allows for high output reproduction of solid, heavy bass even in a compact body. The center cap is also made of the same high-rigidity glass fiber material as the diaphragm, and its φ64mm concave shape ensures that it will not collapse under the large amplitude of the subwoofer. The enclosure is sealed to achieve both a compact body and fast bass response, and the front baffle has a corner wood structure that firmly supports the speaker section, enabling reproduction of realistic low frequencies.

A four-layer voice coil, heavier than the usual two-layer design, is used to optimize low-frequency reproduction by controlling sound pressure in the mid- and high-frequency range. The compact body is also equipped with a high-efficiency 50W high-power digital amplifier. The power supply is built into the main unit, eliminating the need for an external AC adapter, which can get in the way during installation.

The amplifier includes a FREQUENCY knob for adjusting the crossover frequency (60 to 150 Hz) and a phase switch for inverting the phase. These features allow fine adjustment according to the main speakers connected, including the PM0.3 series and PM0.1 series, as well as the listening environment. RCA through jacks is also provided to output the input signal to the main speakers, enabling listening with the main speakers alone. A stereo RCA pin cable (1.5 m) for connection to speakers such as the PM0.3 is included.

When a signal below a certain level (approx. -40 dBV) is input to the unit for a long period, the auto standby function is activated, reducing power consumption to 0.5 W or less. When a signal above that level is input again, the unit automatically returns to normal operation. The auto standby function may not operate properly depending on the noise level of the connected device.
