Pioneer DJ DJM-A9 DJ Mixer 4-Channel - Black

The Pioneer DJ DJM-A9 (DJM A9) is a 4-channel professional club mixer and the successor to the DJM-900NXS2. It uses 32-bit ESS Technology A/D and D/A converters, a third-generation MAGVEL FADER crossfader, 14 Beat FX and 6 Sound Color FX, and adds a phantom-powered condenser microphone input, Bluetooth input, dual independent headphone outputs and support for the Stagehand remote management app. It is designed for club installations, touring, and back-to-back sets.

What it changes over the DJM-900NXS2

• 32-bit ESS converters on the channel inputs and on the master and booth outputs, so the booth hears what the floor hears.
• Center Lock on the Sound Color FX knobs — a first — stopping each knob at the centre position so you can take an effect to its limit without tipping into the opposite parameter. Switch it off and the knobs behave like the 900NXS2's.
• Three new Beat FX — Mobius, Triplet Filter and Triplet Roll — within a total of 14, with a colour display and a dedicated channel-select button.
• A phantom-powered microphone input, never before seen on a DJ mixer, plus Echo, Pitch and Megaphone mic effects and a Push To Talk button.
• Dual independent headphone outputs with separate cue, volume and mix controls for each DJ.
• Two computers at once via dual USB Type-B and Type-C, plus a Bluetooth input routable to any channel.
• Wider EQ knob spacing and brighter channel LEDs for faster visual reads on level.

Stunningly clear sound quality

The channel input section uses an ESS Technology 32-bit A/D converter for high-resolution sound, while the master and booth output sections use 32-bit D/A converters from the same brand, so the booth monitors reproduce what the crowd hears on the dancefloor. Microphone input and headphone output quality were both improved with newly selected parts and design optimisation.

Evolved playability

Increased spacing around the EQ knobs gives you room to twist your fingers, and high-grade bright LEDs in the channel section make sound levels easier to read at a glance. Isolator frequency response was optimised for current production styles. Higher quality channel faders and the third-generation MAGVEL FADER crossfader give smooth mixing and stable, rapid scratching.

Sound Color FX with Center Lock

Turn on Center Lock and each Sound Color FX knob stops at the centre position, so you can twist as fast as you like and take the effect to the maximum of the high parameter or the minimum of the low one without accidentally crossing over. Turn it off and the knobs work exactly as they do on the DJM-900NXS2.

Newly advanced Beat FX

A colour display shows the status of the selected effect at a glance, with lighting corresponding to the X-Pad's horizontal arrangement for intuitive control with a finger slide. Use the X-Pad to push Echo and Ping Pong into analog tape-style territory. Three new effects — Mobius, Triplet Filter and Triplet Roll — join the 14 total, and the channel selector is now a dedicated button.

Enhanced microphone section

The phantom-powered input lets you connect a high-quality condenser mic directly to the mixer. Three microphone effects — Echo, Pitch and Megaphone — sit alongside a dedicated reverb. The Push To Talk button turns the mic on and off instantly, and mic audio can be excluded from the recording output so you can address the room without it landing in the mix recording.

Expanded connectivity

Dual USB Type-B and USB Type-C ports let two computers stay connected at once for seamless DJ changeovers and back-to-back sets. A Bluetooth input can be routed to any channel, so audio from a phone or tablet runs through the mixer's full feature set. The Multi I/O section has an independent channel selector, giving the DJM-A9 true send capability — route the effected signal from an external unit such as an RMX-1000 or a delay pedal to a separate channel rather than back to its own.

Dual headphone outputs and booth EQ

Two DJs can plug in at once and monitor whichever channels they choose, with separate cue buttons, volume knobs and mix balance controls for each output. The 2-band booth EQ lets you shape highs and lows independently of the master, so the booth can be tuned to suit the DJ without changing what the room hears.

Stagehand app support

The DJM-A9 works with Stagehand, a PRO DJ LINK remote management app for front-of-house teams. With an iPad connected wirelessly via a LAN router (sold separately), an engineer can watch level meters and the DJ's use of the mixer's controls, tune the system, and run a smoother show without interrupting the performance or entering the booth.
