ColorKey CKU-7711 Dazzler FX MK2 Cold Spark Machine - White

The ColorKey Dazzler FX MK2 (CKU-7711, also written Dazzler FX MKII) is a 600W cold spark machine in a white housing for mobile DJs, weddings and stage shows. It fires a fountain of sparks adjustable from 5 to 15 ft, pre-heats in as little as 3 minutes, and runs from DMX, master/slave or the included wireless remote.

There is no open flame. The machine heats ColorKey's titanium spark powder and blows it upward as a controlled spark fountain. Link two or more and the remote triggers ColorKey's built-in multi-unit programs: spark runs, chases and timed outputs. The wireless receiver is built into the MK2, so there is no separate receiver to plug in or lose. Spark powder is sold separately as the ColorKey CKU-7800.

How high do the sparks go?

From 5 ft up to 15 ft. Choose low, middle or high from the remote or the on-board menu.

How long does it take to heat up?

As little as 3 minutes. Pre-heating starts as soon as the machine is plugged in, and ColorKey's manual says to allow 3 to 5 minutes before the first effect.

Can I use it indoors?

Yes. ColorKey rates the Dazzler FX MK2 for indoor and outdoor use, and it uses no open flame. Follow the clearance distances in ColorKey's manual, and check with the venue before the event: many venues and local fire authorities have their own rules for spark effects.

What powder does it use, and how long does a bag last?

ColorKey Dazzler FX Spark Powder (CKU-7800), a 200 g bag of titanium granules. ColorKey rates one bag at about 15 minutes of spark effect, and its manual recommends loading about half a bag at a time and firing in short bursts of 10 to 30 seconds.

How many can I link together?

Up to 30 for the remote's multi-unit effects. Power is a separate limit: ColorKey's manual allows up to 6 machines on one powerCON chain.

Does it need cleaning?

Yes. Run the clear-out function at the end of every event. It blows out the remaining powder with the heater off, from the remote's Clear button or DMX channel 2.

How is the MK2 different from the original Dazzler FX?

The wireless receiver is built in. The original Dazzler FX used a separate plug-in receiver that could be lost or damaged in transit. ColorKey publishes the same spark height, power, pre-heat and DMX figures for both, and now lists the original as a legacy model.

How does it compare with the JMAZ Firestorm 4 and Bauer Comet?

The JMAZ Firestorm 4 fires 3 to 13 ft, warms up in under 8 minutes, runs on 110V only, and adds one-button Hi-Lo and Burst effects with 4-channel DMX. The Bauer Comet is a 650W machine listed at 9.8 to 16.4 ft with a 1 to 3 minute pre-heat. The Dazzler FX MK2 is the one that runs on 120-240V and links up to 30 units for remote-triggered chase programs.

Is there a 2-pack with a case?

Yes. The CKU-7713 packs two white Dazzler FX MK2 machines in a wheeled road case. ColorKey also sells that case on its own as the CKU-9030 (18.5 x 13.5 x 15 in).
