RCF EVOX J8 Active Portable PA System – Black

The RCF EVOX J8 (EVOX-J8, EVOX J 8) is a portable column PA system: a slim line-source column with eight 2-inch full-range drivers on a pole over a 12-inch bass-reflex subwoofer, powered by a built-in 1400 W peak (700 W RMS) Class-D amplifier. It reaches 128 dB max SPL, covers 120° horizontal by 30° vertical, and plays down to 40 Hz. It is made for DJs, solo musicians, bands and presenters who want one system that sets up in minutes, and it weighs 52.5 lb (23.8 kg) as a complete system.

The subwoofer holds the amplifier and DSP with RCF FiRPHASE processing. The column screws onto a pole in the top of the sub and connects to it with one speakON cable, so a single power cord runs the whole system.

How is the EVOX J8 different from the EVOX J9 and J11?

All three are RCF EVOX J column systems with a 12-inch subwoofer. The EVOX J8 is the lightest and simplest: a 2-way column of eight 2-inch drivers. The EVOX J9 and EVOX J11 are 3-way, adding a compression driver for the highs, with more power and output.

Pick the EVOX J8 for the lightest system to carry and set up alone. Pick the EVOX J9 or J11 when you need more output and a compression driver for long-throw vocals.

Can I plug a microphone straight into the EVOX J8?

Yes, one dynamic microphone. Set the input sensitivity switch on the back of the subwoofer to MIC and plug the mic into the XLR input. Leave the switch on LINE for a mixer, DJ controller or other line-level source; RCF warns not to use the MIC setting with a mixer output. To use a microphone and music together, run both through a mixer.

What inputs and outputs does it have?

A balanced XLR input and a balanced 1/4-inch TRS input, an XLR output wired in parallel with the input for linking a second speaker, and a speakON amplifier output that feeds the column. The rear panel also has the volume control, the FLAT/BOOST switch and Limiter, Signal and Status LEDs.

What does the Boost switch do?

It adds a loudness EQ that lifts the lows for background music at low volume. RCF recommends Flat for normal use, which is the setting for a live band or a DJ set at full level.

How tall is it, and how do I set it up?

The system stands 77.7 to 89.9 inches (1974 to 2284 mm) tall, adjustable on the pole. Screw the pole into the insert on top of the subwoofer, set the height, slide the column on, connect the speakON cable from the subwoofer to the column, then power on. The subwoofer has a top handle with a rubber grip for carrying.

Is the EVOX J8 good for DJs?

Yes. RCF lists DJ mix sets, live music, presentations and events as its uses. The 120° horizontal coverage spreads sound across a wide dance floor or room, and the 12-inch subwoofer reaches 40 Hz. For a larger crowd, link a second EVOX J8 from the XLR output, or step up to the EVOX J9 or J11.
