Description

The LD Systems MON 8 A G3 W (LDS-MON8AG3W) is the smallest wedge in the MON G3 range: an 8-inch powered coaxial monitor in white, 340 mm across and 13.2 kg, reaching 121 dB peak from 300 W RMS of Class D power with response to 59 Hz. It exists for the stages where a 12-inch wedge is simply in the way — tight risers, drum fills, side fills, and touring kit that one person loads in.

Why size is the whole point of this one

At 13.2 kg you carry it in one hand. Its footprint is 340 x 278 mm, which fits between a drum riser and a monitor line where the bigger cabinets will not. Everything else in the range shares its amplifier, horn and wedge angle, so the decision between models is almost entirely about how much air you need to move and how much floor you can spare.

Model Woofer Peak SPL Low end (-10 dB) Crossover Weight
MON 8 A G3 W 8" 121 dB 59 Hz 2,500 Hz 13.2 kg / 29 lb
MON 10 A G3 W 10" 126 dB 58 Hz 1,700 Hz 15.21 kg / 34 lb
MON 12 A G3 W 12" 127 dB 55 Hz 1,400 Hz 17.4 kg / 38 lb
MON 15 A G3 W 15" 129 dB 48 Hz 1,300 Hz 23.15 kg / 51 lb

Read that as a trade: stepping up to the 10 buys you 5 dB and costs you 2 kg. Stepping all the way to the 15 buys 8 dB and 11 Hz of low end, and nearly doubles the weight. If your stage is small and your load-in is you, the 8 is the sensible end of that curve.

Prefer black? The same monitor is listed as the MON 8 A G3. The W suffix denotes finish only — LD Systems publishes identical figures for both.

Where an 8-inch wedge earns its place

Drum fill, where the cabinet has to sit inside the kit rather than beside it. Side fill on a stage too shallow for a proper wedge line. Corporate and AV work where the speaker should be invisible against a light-coloured set. And as a satellite on a stand above a subwoofer, which the cabinet is built for — there is a stand socket in the base.

Tuning it during soundcheck, without a laptop

The DynX DSP is driven from the rear panel: four application presets that reconfigure the box for how it is being used, a three-band EQ, a notch filter for ringing frequencies, and a delay line. That covers the two things that actually go wrong on a stage — feedback at one frequency, and a wedge arriving out of time with the rest of the rig.

Running a line of them

Signal arrives on XLR/jack combo inputs and passes on through two XLR outputs, so wedges chain from one feed. Power is PowerCON-compatible in and out, which means one mains run down the monitor line rather than a socket per cabinet. On a four-wedge stage that is the difference between two cables and eight.

Built for repeated load-ins

15 mm birch multiplex and MDF under a sprayed polyurea coating. Polyurea matters more than it sounds: it is a coating rather than paint or carpet, so the scuffs that come from stacking cabinets in a van do not go straight through to bare wood. A padded cover is available if it is travelling regularly.

Common questions

Is one enough for a small stage?
For a solo act, a duo or a speech reinforcement job, yes. For a full band with live drums you will usually want the 10 or the 12 for the drummer and vocals, and the 8 as a fill elsewhere.

Can it double as a main speaker?
Yes, on a stand via the socket in the base, and it works as a satellite over a subwoofer. It is a monitor first, so treat front-of-house duty as a secondary use rather than the reason to buy it.

Do I need an external processor or amp?
No. Amplification and DSP are both built in. It needs a signal and a mains socket.

What is the difference between this and the MON 10?
5 dB of peak output and a lower crossover, for 2 kg more weight and a larger footprint. The low-frequency limit is almost identical, 59 Hz against 58 Hz, so the 10 buys headroom rather than extra bass.
