Teenage Engineering TP-7 Portable Digital Tape Field Recorder - Aluminum

The Teenage Engineering TP-7 (TP7) is a portable digital field recorder for music, interviews and voice memos, in the aluminum finish. It has 128 GB of internal storage, a built-in microphone and speaker, three two-way 3.5 mm jacks that work as inputs, outputs or headset connections, a motorized tape reel, and a rechargeable battery rated at about 7 hours.

Press the memo button to record an idea, scrub with the side rocker or by touching the spinning reel, and pause a recording by holding the reel. Over USB-C it is a 24-bit / 96 kHz multichannel audio interface, and the TP-7 app transcribes recordings to text.

Does the TP-7 have a built-in microphone?

Yes. It records with its built-in microphone and plays back through its built-in speaker, with nothing plugged in.

Can I connect external microphones?

Yes. Each of the three two-way 3.5 mm jacks can be set as an input, so you can record external mics, a headset or instruments such as the OP-1 Field and TX-6. At 48 kHz it records up to 6 stereo tracks; at 96 kHz, up to 3.

Can the TP-7 transcribe interviews?

Yes. Connect your phone to the TP-7 over Bluetooth or USB, open the TP-7 app and choose transcribe.

Can I pause a recording without stopping it?

Yes. Place a finger on the spinning reel to pause, which lets you take part of an interview off the record.
