Pioneer DJ DDJ-FLX4 vs FLX6 guide header showing the AlphaTheta DDJ-FLX2, Pioneer DJ DDJ-FLX4 and AlphaTheta DDJ-GRV6 DJ controllers - Hollywood DJ

The DDJ-FLX4 is a 2-channel controller with a mic input and RCA outputs. The DDJ-FLX6 was the 4-channel step up, with full-size jog wheels, a booth output and Merge FX. We no longer carry the FLX6. If you want a 4-channel Pioneer DJ / AlphaTheta controller in that class today, the one we sell is the DDJ-GRV6. If you want to spend less than the FLX4 costs, the DDJ-FLX2 is the small one to look at.

Specs below come from the manufacturer's pages. Prices are what we charge in November 2026 and they move, so check the product page before you decide.

Which one should you buy?

  • Learning at home on a budget: DDJ-FLX2 (about $189). It is 15 inches wide, weighs 2.6 lb and runs off the USB cable. It has one 3.5 mm headphone jack and one 3.5 mm master output, and the spec sheet lists no mic input. Fine for learning, not what you want for a first party gig.
  • Your first real setup: DDJ-FLX4 (about $329). Two channels, a 1/4-inch mic input, RCA master outputs you can run straight to powered speakers, and it fits in a backpack at 4.6 lb. This is the one most people should start with.
  • Playing four decks, or you want bigger jogs: DDJ-GRV6 (about $899). Four channels, 206 mm (8.1 in) jog wheels the same size as the CDJ-3000X, a booth output, two headphone jacks and a Beat FX section modeled on the DJM-A9. It is 10.2 lb and 28 inches wide, so plan your table.

What is the real difference between the FLX4 and the FLX6?

Channels first. The FLX4 has 2 channels, so you play two tracks and mix them. The FLX6 has 4 channels, and its fourth channel plays either deck 4 or the sampler, picked with a switch. That means you can set up a 4-deck rig in rekordbox or Serato DJ Pro.

After that it is size and connections. The FLX6 is about 26.6 inches wide against the FLX4's 19, and 8.4 lb against 4.6 lb. It has full-size jog wheels, which the manufacturer says are the same size as the CDJ-3000's, plus booth outputs and Merge FX in rekordbox (41 effect types per element, more than 9,000 patterns). The FLX4 has the Smart Fader, which adjusts volume, bass and BPM during a transition so it comes out smooth, and Smart CFX, a one-knob effect combination.

Both have 8 rubber pads per deck, a 1/4-inch mic input and USB power from the computer. Neither lists inputs for outside players such as CDJs or turntables, so if you want to mix those you need a mixer, not a controller.

DDJ-FLX2 or DDJ-FLX4?

The FLX4 costs about $140 more and gets you a mic input, RCA outputs for speakers, and a roomier layout. Those are the things you notice the first time a friend says "can you play at my party."

The FLX2 makes sense when the controller will mostly live on a desk next to a laptop, or you are buying for a kid, or you want something you can carry in a messenger bag. It runs from USB power and the spec sheet lists a 3.5 mm headphone jack and a 3.5 mm master output. If you later want speakers, you will need a 3.5 mm to RCA or 1/4-inch cable, and that is easy to forget.

Is the DDJ-GRV6 worth the jump from the FLX4?

Yes, if you play venues, use four decks or care about jog wheel feel. The GRV6 jogs are 206 mm, and AlphaTheta says its Beat FX section has the same feel as the DJM-A9. In Serato DJ Pro you get stems effects, so you can hit just the drums or the vocal with a roll or echo. In rekordbox you get Groove Circuit, which swaps drum parts on the fly.

No, if you are still learning. The FLX4 teaches you the same skills for $570 less, and the money is better spent on headphones and a pair of speakers. You can always sell it later and move up.

Which DJ software works with each one?

All four work with rekordbox and with Serato DJ. On the FLX2 and FLX4 you can start with the free Serato DJ Lite, and Serato DJ Pro needs a license or subscription. The FLX2, FLX4 and GRV6 also list djay, and Traktor Play is listed for the FLX2 and FLX4. If you already own a Serato or rekordbox library, pick the controller that supports that program before anything else.

What else will you need?

A controller alone does not make a setup. Plan for these:

Not sure whether you need a controller at all? Read the difference between a DJ controller and a mixer first. New to all of it? Start with what a DJ is and how to start. If you want the full range, see all 2-channel and 4-channel DJ controllers, or call us at 1-800-700-4542 and we will help you build the setup.

Common questions

Is the Pioneer DDJ-FLX6 discontinued?

We no longer sell it, and the closest 4-channel controller in our catalog is the AlphaTheta DDJ-GRV6. We cannot speak for the manufacturer's stock elsewhere, so ask a dealer before you buy a used one.

How many channels does the DDJ-FLX4 have?

Two. The FLX4 is a 2-channel controller. The FLX6 and GRV6 are the 4-channel ones.

Does the DDJ-FLX4 have a mic input?

Yes, a 1/4-inch TRS jack with its own level control. The FLX2 lists no mic input.

Can I use the DDJ-FLX4 with Serato?

Yes. Serato DJ Lite is free, and Serato DJ Pro works with a license or subscription. rekordbox, djay and Traktor Play are also listed.

Do the FLX4 and FLX6 plug into CDJs or turntables?

No. The inputs are for a microphone and your computer. To mix outside players you want a DJ mixer.

Which is best for a beginner, FLX2, FLX4 or GRV6?

The FLX4 for most people. The FLX2 if you are tight on money or space. The GRV6 only when you already know you want four decks and larger jogs.
