The ADJ WMX1 MK3 (ADJ's version of the Wolfmix W1 MK3, also written WMX1 Mk3 or W1 MK3, ADJ item WMX300) is a standalone DMX lighting controller for mobile DJs, clubs, houses of worship and event production teams that want to run a full light show without a laptop. It has a 4.3-inch color touchscreen, 37 backlit buttons and four push encoders, drives 2 DMX universes out of the box and up to 4 (2,048 channels) with add-ons, and controls up to 680 fixtures from a library of 15,000+ fixture profiles. It weighs 2.36 lb (1.07 kg) and powers over USB-C.
What is new in the MK3?
ADJ kept the Wolfmix workflow the same and changed the hardware and firmware around it:
- New button mechanism for a more responsive, more satisfying press during live use.
- USB-C power in place of the MK2's USB-B port.
- Streamlined, precision-molded housing designed to sit flush against the ADJ WMX WING fader extension.
- Wolfmix 2.0 "Double Trouble" firmware out of the box: 200 presets (up from 100), 80 live edits (up from 40), up to 100 stored projects (up from 6), 20 static colors, positions and gobos per group (up from 10) with Expand Mode, two effects at once in each FX module, individual offsets for each moving head, BPM and a beat JOG on the HOME screen, MUSIC BREAK to freeze effects when an external BPM signal stops, and a color picker with RGB+, lime, CMY and hue modes.
- Fixture Clusters (beta) lets you control parts of complex fixtures, such as a pixel ring or a strobe strip, on their own.
How is the WMX1 MK3 different from the WMX1 MK2?
The two run the same Wolfmix workflow and have the same outputs, screen and size. The differences:

Because Wolfmix 2.0 also runs on earlier WMX1 controllers, the MK3's real upgrades are the button feel, USB-C and the WING-matched housing. Both work with the WMX WING.
Can it run a light show without a computer?
Yes. Everything runs on the controller: adding fixtures, addressing, grouping, effects, presets and music sync. It starts in under 2 seconds and sends DMX in under 1 second. A Mac or PC with the WTOOLS app is only needed for firmware updates, downloading extra fixture profiles, backing up projects and buying add-ons, and that computer must have a USB 3.0 port, because USB 2.0 does not supply enough power.
How many DMX universes does it have?
Two are active out of the box. Universe 1 runs out of XLR A and B and universe 2 out of XLR C and D, so each universe has both a 3-pin and a 5-pin output and the controller can also act as a DMX splitter. Universes 3 and 4 unlock as paid add-ons in the WTOOLS app, giving up to 2,048 channels across the four XLR outputs. Any universe can be assigned to any output.
How do the Color, Move and Beam FX work?
Each of the three FX modules has 8 effect types and can run two effects at once, applied to fixture groups. Color FX builds chases from up to 16 colors, such as Rainbow, Sparkle or Light Fever, across RGB, amber, white, lime, UV or CMY channels, or on a color wheel. Move FX runs pan and tilt patterns such as circles on moving heads and scanners. Beam FX covers intensity and beam effects. Speed, phase, sequence, size, fade, fan and flicker are all adjustable.
How do groups, presets and flash buttons work?
The HOME screen gives you four group columns, and SHIFT switches to four more, for 8 fixture groups. Store any look as one of 200 presets, with its own fade, and play presets back as a list. Live edits (80) override selected channels on the fly, and dedicated buttons fire Strobe, Blinder, Speed, Blackout and Smoke flash effects. Color, Position, Gobo and Live Edit buttons open the static screens.
Can it sync to music?
Yes. Effects follow the beat from the built-in omnidirectional microphone or the 3.5 mm line input, which uses analog adaptive peak detection. For tempo sync it takes BPM tap, Ableton Link, OS2L or MIDI Clock.
Will it control my lights?
It controls virtually any DMX fixture, up to 680 fixtures and 50 fixture types. 3,500+ profiles are stored on the controller and 15,000+ are available through WTOOLS. If a light is missing, build its profile on the controller with the Fixture Builder. FLIP reverses the beam order on LED bars, SPLIT breaks multi-FX bars into parts, and a fixture limits grid keeps moving heads inside the area you set.
Can I add faders or a second controller?
Yes, three ways:
- ADJ WMX WING: 8 motorized, touch-sensitive faders, 8 OLED strip displays, an 8 x 5 RGB button matrix and cue lists of up to 5,000 cues. It works with the WMX1, WMX1 MK2 and WMX1 MK3.
- WLINK: with the WLINK add-on, link two Wolfmix controllers over a 5-pin XLR cable so they follow each other, or connect a DMX fader board to the 5-pin WLINK socket to map faders to group dimmers, presets and flash effects.
- MIDI: plug a MIDI controller into the USB-A port to map faders to group dimmers and buttons to presets or flash effects. Devices with 5-pin MIDI DIN need a class-compliant USB MIDI adapter.

Common questions
Is the ADJ WMX1 MK3 the same as the Wolfmix W1 MK3?
Yes. ADJ sells the Wolfmix W1 MK3 as the WMX1 MK3, with ADJ and WMX1 badging and the same controls, specs and Wolfmix workflow. Some photos in this gallery show the Wolfmix-badged W1 MK3.
Does it need a laptop to run?
No. It runs shows on its own. A computer with WTOOLS is only for updates, extra fixture profiles, backups and add-ons.
Are all 4 DMX universes included?
No. Two are included. Universes 3 and 4 are paid add-ons in the WTOOLS app.
Can I mount it?
Yes. The steel base plate has a 100 mm VESA pattern for M4 screws up to 6 mm long.
Does the WMX WING work with it?
Yes. The WING adds 8 motorized faders and cue lists, and the MK3's housing is designed to sit flush against it.
What powers it?
The included 1 A power supply and USB cable, into the USB-C port. ADJ recommends a 1.5 A supply when a MIDI controller or WLINK is connected.
Can I update an older WMX1 to the new firmware?
Yes. Wolfmix 2.0 is also available for earlier WMX1 controllers through WTOOLS. The button mechanism, USB-C port and WING-matched housing are MK3 hardware.
