Column PA systems from LD Systems, RCF, Electro-Voice, HK Audio, QSC, Bose, Yorkville, dB Technologies and BASSBOSS, including the MAUI, EVOX, EVOLVE and POLAR series. Most pair a slim column with a subwoofer base, so a full system sets up in minutes and takes little floor space at weddings, corporate events, DJ gigs and live music.

What is a column PA, and who is it for?
A column PA pairs a tall, slim array of small drivers with a subwoofer base. It suits mobile DJs, bands, wedding and corporate work, and anyone who wants full-range sound from a compact system that sets up quickly. The narrow column also looks tidier in a ballroom, a restaurant or a house of worship than a box speaker on a pole.
Which column system fits my event?
| Type | Good for | Examples we carry |
|---|---|---|
| Built-in mixer | Solo performers, presenters and small gigs with mics and music, no separate mixer | LD Systems MAUI 5 (mixer and Bluetooth) and MAUI 28 G3 MIX, RCF EVOX JMIX9 (8-channel digital mixer), Yamaha STAGEPAS1K (5 channels) |
| Cardioid subwoofer | Rooms where bass bouncing back onto the stage or off the wall behind is a problem | LD Systems MAUI 11 G3, MAUI 28 G3 and MAUI 44 G2 |
| Larger subwoofer | Bigger rooms and dance floors | RCF EVOX J9 and J11 (12-inch woofer), Yorkville Tower12 (12-inch sub), BASSBOSS SUBLIM8 MK3 (18-inch sub) |
| Battery powered | Ceremonies and outdoor spots with no outlet | Gemini WPX-2000TOGO |
What does cardioid mean on a column PA?
A cardioid subwoofer sends much less bass out of its back than its front. On a column PA that means less low end on the performer standing behind the system and less boom off the wall behind it, so the stage stays clearer and the mix sounds tighter in the room. The LD Systems MAUI 11 G3, MAUI 28 G3 and MAUI 44 G2 are cardioid designs.
Do I need one column or two?
One is often enough for speech, background music and small rooms. Use two, one on each side of the stage or booth, for music in larger rooms and on dance floors, or when the audience wraps around you.
Column PA or traditional box speakers?
Choose a column for quick setup, a small footprint and a clean look. Choose box speakers on poles with separate subwoofers for loud dance floors, outdoor events and systems you plan to expand. Compare both in PA Speakers.
How do I carry a column PA?
Several systems come with their own bag or cover: the Electro-Voice EVOLVE 70 and EVOLVE 90 include an array carry bag, the Yorkville Tower12 a gig bag, and RCF EVOX J9 and EVOX JMIX9 kits add a cover. For other models, see Speaker Bags and Speaker Covers.
